In 1816 Absalom Shade traveled to Dumfries Township in the Gore District of Upper Canada.
The log house as well as the grist and saw mill built along the Grand River became known as the foundation for the community of Shade's Mills and would remain known as such until 1827 when the burgeoning community was renamed Galt. Today Galt is one of the three communities that comprise Cambridge, Ontario.
The mills built along Mill Creek and the Grand River meant that work could be done locally rather than be jobbed out to other business centres.
We feel that world class business knowledge and experience can be found here in Cambridge in the form of the Shade's Mills Group.
